  • You forgot to mention another American Cardinal, Bernard Francis Law, who resigned as Archbishop of Boston just hours before state troopers arrived to present him grand jury papers concerning cover-ups of child abuse by his priests. Pope Benedict XVI, another priest who did nothing to stop child abuse when head of the Sacred Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith (formerly called the Inquisition), has rewarded Cardinal Law with a pension as archpriest emeritus of the Basilica di Santa Maria Maggiore, titular Cardinal Priest of Santa Susanna, and the American Catholic church in Rome. Since the pope has also made him a member of the Roman Curia Cardinal Law enjoys diplomatic immunity from extradition.
