JERUSALEM (Reuters) – Fire gutted part of the Church of Loaves and Fishes on the shores of the Sea of Galilee in northern Israel on Thursday and investigators suspected arson as a possible cause, a police spokesman said.

The church, which Christians believe is where Jesus performed the Miracle of the Multiplication of the Loaves and the Fishes, lies on the shores of the Sea of Galilee and is a traditional site of pilgrimage in the Holy Land.

Police spokesman Micky Rosenfeld said investigators were at the site and Hebrew graffiti had been found, which led police and fire service investigators to suspect that the fire had been set deliberately.

“Firefighters arrived at the scene at around 3.30 a.m. (00:30 GMT) and it was put out, but extensive damage was caused to the church both inside and out and Hebrew graffiti was found, which has led to suspicions that the fire might have been caused deliberately,” Rosenfeld said.

The graffiti, on a limestone wall in clear red spray paint denounced the worship of idols.

  • You can smell the Palestinian activists even through the smoke and charred wood.

Notice that the Church existed in Israel?

It would have been turned into a Mosque long ago if it were in an “Islamic Country.” After of course the Christians were killed as kafir.

And of course, if a Jewish Israeli DID commit the crime, they will not be treated as a hero. They will be prosecuted and if found guilty, put in prison.

This is a horrible thing to have happened. But, it is to be expected. Christians will either rebuild or move on to worship the risen Messiah as He taught they should.

  • BB is obviously unfamiliar with the Church of the Nativity, located deep in the West Bank. Although its in danger, it has more to do with poor maintenance. What ignorant haters don’t want to acknowledge or want to be willfully ignorant of is that predominately Muslim Palestinian authority has been working to restore the birthplace of Jesus.

Unfortunately one of the downsides to a right wing government popular with American Christian zionists is an increasing tolerance for Ultra-Orthodox Jewish obnoxious behavior..
