Auschwitz officials chastise US Rep. Clay Higgins for gas chamber video

(USA Today) Officials at the Auschwitz‑Birkenau Memorial and Museum chastised a U.S. congressman who recorded a video in which he lobbies for a strong military and tight homeland security from inside a gas chamber at the Nazi death camp in Poland.

Louisiana Republican Clay Higgins recorded five minutes of video, including some from areas of the site where Jews were gassed and their bodies burned. Higgins, an Army veteran and former police officer, briefly explains in the video how the victims were killed.

“This is why homeland security must be squared away, why our military must be invincible,” Higgins says, with some of the ovens in the background.

That drew the attention of Auschwitz officials.

“Everyone has the right to personal reflections. However, inside a former gas chamber, there should be mournful silence. It’s not a stage,” the museum tweeted Tuesday.

The New York-based Anne Frank Center for Mutual Respect condemned the video with stronger language.

“Congressman Higgins, Auschwitz is not a television studio,” Steven Goldstein, the center’s executive director, said in a statement. “It is the site of genocide and tragedy for the Jewish people that you have disrespected. Not only must you apologize, but you must also get the sensitivity training appropriate for your continued service in the U.S. Congress.”

Higgins’ office did not immediately respond to a request for comment from USA Today.

The video was posted Saturday (July 1) on the conservative Lee Johnson Media’s YouTube channel. In the video, Higgins goes on to say that man’s inhumanity “can be quite shocking.” He said that the world is a smaller place today than during World War II and that the U.S. is more susceptible “to a horror like this.”

“It’s hard to walk away from gas chambers, ovens, without a very sober feeling of commitment, unwavering commitment, to make damn sure that the United States of America is protected from the evils of the world,” Higgins said.

Higgins made news last month after a terror attack in London when he posted on Facebook the assertion that “the free world … all of Christendom … is at war with Islamic horror. Not one penny of American treasure should be granted to any nation who harbors these heathen animals.”

Higgins’ post went on to say that suspected radicalized Islamists should be denied entry into the United States.

“Every conceivable measure should be engaged to hunt them down,” he said. “Hunt them, identify them, and kill them. Kill them all. For the sake of all that is good and righteous. Kill them all.”

That post drew an outcry on social media, with critics blasting Higgins for treatment of “suspected” terrorists and because there was no mention of trials. Higgins was unapologetic, telling The Times-Picayune of New Orleans that “the terrorists certainly take advantage of the politically correct madness that consumes the West. They revel that many in the western world are frightened to speak freely.”

  • What an effing turd!
Such blatant politicking at the site is a deliberate and disrespectful action.

BTW many people killed there were refugees turned away from our shores. Exactly the kind of policy this guy supports.

Sorry, until there are no longer Neo Nazis in the White House staff, Republicans should just stay the eff away from the monuments of genocide victims, references to the holocaust, or do anything to evoke it’s history.

  • Before I finished reading the article, I was waiting for someone to bring up political correctness = a characteristic apparently absolving one of a multitude of sins, poor taste or simple stupidity when invoked.

  • We need a moratorium on using the Holocaust for political purposes, especially when it doesn’t apply. It actually never applies, unless you’re talking about Rwanda or Cambodia. What kind of person would think this is appropriate? We also need a moratorium on comparing Israel to Nazis, when the Palestinian population grows every year, from the far-left.

  • We’re not frightened of speaking freely.

Sufism, a branch of Islam, teaches that speech should pass four gates: 1. Are these words true; 2. Are they necessary; 3. Are they beneficial; 4. Are they kind? If the answer is “no” at any one of these gates, the words should be left unspoken.

    Thus endeth the lesson.

  • Using the Holocaust to justify your political position is obscene. Yet, whether from the left or the right it just keeps on coming. I think the whole lot them in congress need to go through a a Yad Vashem course on the Holocaust, what to teach concerning the Holocaust and for what purpose. You never take a child a child behind the wire to teach them. As for adults – emotionally and spiritually mature ones – they know better. Higgins is a throwback in his approach to many things. An apology should be forthcoming to the Jewish community.

  • What is missed here is that the people who built the gas chambers he filmed had the same view of the need for an invincible military as Rep Higgins does.

  • About two miles from Capitol Hill is the US Holocaust Museum. Rep. Higgins should really go, it would help him better understand the world around him.

  • Higgins should have selected a different setting for his video commercial or whatever. We all agree on that.

(But yes, it’s still okay to remind readers that political correctness is still a real problem.)

As for me, I don’t usually see a need to compare current issues to the German death camps. But black people died in those camps too — whenever the Gestapo let them live long enough to arrive at them — so I reserve the right **not** to ask somebody else’s permission to make reference or comparison to those camps if it seems appropriate.

  • 800,000 Israelies, or 16 percent of the Jewish population of that country—turned up to pay their respects at the funeral Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, Ovadiah Yosef, making it the largest funeral in Israeli history. The man they chose to honour promoted wholesale genocide of the Palestinians. http://www.timesofisrael.com/jerusalem-closes-down-for-rabbi-ovadia-yosefs-funeral/

On Palestinians, Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, Ovadiah Yosef had the following to say, as quoted by the BBC: http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1270038.stm

“It is forbidden to be merciful to them. You must send missiles to them and annihilate them. They are evil and damnable. The Lord shall return the Arabs’ deeds on their own heads, waste their seed and exterminate them, devastate them and vanish them from this world.

♦ “waste their seed” is a reference to Palestinian children.

  • In yet another gaping hole in the bow of battleship Auschwitz, the mothership of the Holocaust fleet, what is perhaps the most authoritative and exhaustive book on Auschwitz yet published, Auschwitz: 1270 to Present by Robert Jan Van Pelt and Deborah Dwork, it is admitted by the two Jewish Holocaust authors that the gas chamber at the main Auschwitz camp and the one shown to tourists was a fake built by the Polish Communists long after the war.
~ [Van Pelt, R. J. & Dwork, D. (1996). Auschwitz: 1270 to Present. New Haven and London: W.W. Norton & Company. p.363-364.] The authors, however, allege that there were gas chambers in another Auschwitz camp.

  • In a 2002 interview with American journalist Amy Goodman, Shulamit Aloni said that charges of antisemitism are “a trick we use” to suppress criticism of Israel coming from within the United States, for criticism coming from Europe “we bring up the Holocaust.” http://www.israelnationalnews.com/Articles/Article.aspx/14507

We always use the anti-Semitism trick or bring up the Holocaust.” — (Former Israeli Minister Shulamit Aloni) http://youtu.be/uW3a1bw5XlE

  • Nothing says effing turd more than a holocaust denier.

You dipsh1ts were pwned more than a decade ago when David Irving’s ridiculous l1es were envicerated under scrutiny in an objective and open forum of the court system. There is nothing you guys bring to the table that Irving didn’t already do and l1ed about. http://WWW.HDOT.org (a must for a point by point take-down of holocaust denial BS)

Your cite to that book, which was published 21 years ago, is from review by a holocaust denial site. The reviewer (and therefore you) l1e about the book (which is available online https://www.amazon.com/Auschwitz-Debórah-Dwork/dp/0393322912 ) hence the lack of a web link to support the assertion.

You didn’t read the book, don’t bother pretending you did.

  • People, keep these tactics in mind when one starts with Islamaphobic tirades. Which are far more common here then old school anti semitism displayed here.

You will see virtually no difference in arguments used:
    -isolated or fictional quotes
    -collective guilt for extremists
-arguments premised that “__ religion is evil”

Thank you for demonstrating to us all that bigoted hysterics don’t change much from target to target.

  • Actually political correctness is pretty much non existent in a real life form. It is far more of something to be opposed by people who seek excuses for boorish, bigoted or just plain offensive actions.

  • Ironic in that the alleged ‘gas chamber’ in which he stood, is not even original. It was “remanufactured” by the Bolsheviks who Hitler was defending Europe from. Then for 50 something years we have the alleged “cold war” and couldn’t trust one word from the commies. But let’s trust them to tell us about Auschwitz.
Fred Leuchter found ZERO evidence of Zyklon B in the ORIGINAL alleged gas chamber, which come to find out was a bomb shelter.

  • Keep in mind that when you call the genocidal statement made by Israel’s Chief Rabbi, “isolated” and “fictional,” despite the fact that I included the link to his quote from the BBC, you expose yourself to be a clown. Here is the link again, for your benefit. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/middle_east/1270038.stm

Don’t forget to explain your comment, criticizing “collective guilt for extremists” given that such a large percentage of Jews living in Israel support Chief Sephardic Rabbi of Israel, Ovadiah Yosef, as evidenced by the turnout at his funeral.

  • The ruling against David Irving in the UK was politically motivated. Can you imagine the impact on Justice Charles Gray’s career, if he had ruled in Irving’s favour? No British Judge would have dared to side with David Irving.

From the beginning, Irving was fighting a losing battle, as Justice Charles Gray was under intense political and MEDIA pressure to rule against Irving. The German weekly DIE ZEIT annotated on April 6, 2000 in regard of the impartiality of the Judge:
“One may usually expect of a Judge of her Majesty that he would not lose sight of the social and political implications regarding a verdict. The reaction on a judgement in favour of Irving can easily be imagined.”

David Irving brought a law suit against Deborah Lipstadt alleging libel. In a report about the Irving-Trial, published in German daily ‘Süddeutsche Zeitung’, (April 12, 2000, page 17) , Petra Steinberger wrote: “Such a law suit would have never been accepted in Germany because the denial of the holocaust constitutes a crime per se.”

Alex Bay, using sophisticated computer and mathematical analysis, has reconstructed a three-dimensional portrait of Treblinka using a 1944 aerial reconnaissance photograph and Kurt Franz’s photograph collection. On the aerial photograph Bay found the visible scar of the “tube” that led from the reception area, where the Jews were unloaded and forced to undress, to the gas chamber buildings. The traces of the “tube” are marked by the clear traces of the fence posts that lined its sides. Although Bay was unable to find definitive traces of the gas chamber buildings on the images, it seems reasonable to conclude that they were close to the end of the tube (in the area marked with an ‘X.’[3]

DID YOU GET THAT? “No definitive traces of the gas chamber buildings on the images.”

“it seems reasonable to conclude” IS NOT PROOF, it’s an assumption, speculation.

  • You dishonest turd. That is not the full quote.

“When Bay examined Franz’s photographs he found an image of the excavators in the area of the mass graves that featured partial views of both the smaller and larger gas chamber buildings. Visible in the image is the end of the older and smaller gas chamber building as well as the room in which the engine was installed. Also visible, but partially blocked by the excavator, is the western end of the roof of the newer, larger gas chamber building”

He found the evidence of the gas chambers and it was stated in the following paragraph.

A piece of crap like you can’t even quote a legitimate website in an honest manner.

  • David Irving initiated the case to silence a critic. He wasn’t on trial. It only wasnt dismissed in motion practice was because of Irving’s ego. The HDOT site has the trial record for the world to see with a point by point breakdown demonstrating why your assertions are such bullsh1t.

Irving got the trial he wanted and got hammered for being so dishonest. Now there is a readily accessible website destroying all of the arguments and phony assertions made by nabobs like you.

Its interesting how you changed the subject after being caught in an obvious attempt at a dishonest quotemine.

  • The article is real. Your assertions are not. Again, neo Nazi nonsense using the same tactics as the anti Islam crowd. Haters don’t change methods. Only targets. The more you post, the more you prove my point.

  • Care to explain what assertions those might be? Oh, I see, I am a hater for pointing out the vicious anti-Palestinian hatred of Israel’s Chief Sephardic Rabbi, Ovadiah Yosef.

Thanks once again for proving to everyone what a silly clown you are.

  • David Irving, (or anybody else) going to court in either the UK, or any EU member nation, or in Russia, the USA, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, etc and arguing that Adolf Hitler’s Third Reich exterminated fewer than 6 million Jews, or arguing that gas chambers did not exist, would have as much chance of winning their case, as a Jew would have winning a case in a court of the Third Reich, defending the record of Jewish Bolsheviks in Russia. i.e. No chance. These courts are politicized. I refer you to the statement made by the German weekly DIE ZEIT on April 6, 2000, which you conveniently ignored.

  • David Irving wanted to use the UK libel laws to spend his critics into the ground. In the UK the loser of a defamation suit has to pay the court costs of the winner. He deliberately chose that venue as a method of attack. It backfired gloriously.

If courts were bound to be so biased as you claimed, why file a case in a venue where it could be financially damaging to lose? If Irving wasn’t such a malicious dbag and really wanted to air his grievances in court, he would have filed in the US. Where no such financial penalty exists except if a case is frivolous on its face.

The trial records are there for everyone to see. Such transparency is at odds for anyone seeking to cover up bias and bad faith dealing. In fact, it was archived in such a way as to specifically refute nonsense assertions such as yours.

    You are full of crap.

  • You haven’t made a single honest assertion of fact in response to me. The real question is when have you stopped 1y1ng.

  • I see, so you can’t explain what assertions I made. Gosh, you are so stupid. Thick as a brick.

  • Nope. Just don’t take you seriously. But I welcome neo nazi nabobs like yourself to post garbage, so people notice similarities in form and argument to other forms of organized bigotry.

Its fun to embarrass other posters with how close their arguments and forms of arguments are to vile dishonest haters like you.

  • Greetings Strongs………..off topic but was curious your opinion on something. I’m in a ‘discussion’ with “John 33”. You also had a conversation going with him. He cited Jeremiah 13:23 as PROOF Moses’ “Ethiopian” is black. I know on the face of it, the verse doesn’t prove anything; but was curious how you would respond. John 33 is a goner; but perhaps I will run into this question from someone else. Thanks mate. Peace.

  • Hi Roy, I’ve left a response to John33, that I believe effectively refutes his claim that Moses’ wife, Zipporah was a Negro. I will try responding to his claims on Jeremiah 13:23 at another time.

  • The Irony with guys like John33 is the axiom — Scripture Interprets Scripture. Guys like John33 pride themselves in their Exegesis “skills”. But they persistently break the most important rule of Exegesis. They use ‘obscure’ passages to interpret the ‘obvious’ passages. My brother does the same thing. We both have to constantly remember that often times our ‘audience’ isn’t always that particular person we are engaged with. John33 is not coming around unless God opens his eyes. But perhaps someone else will stumble upon our conversations and their Spirit will be awakened. Peace and endurance to you Strongs.
